Dear George:
You are not my president. You have not been my president for the past four years, and you will not be my president for the next four. You and your administration have turned our country into a polarized society of citizens constantly looking over our shoulders, too terrified of "terrorists" to notice that our civil liberties are being stripped away one by one.
You claim that you will work to unite a country that is becoming increasingly divided. Forgive me for being skeptical, but four years ago, one of your campaign slogans touted that you were, "A uniter, not a divider." This, obviously, has proven to be a bald-faced lie, much like your constant assertion that Iraq had something to do with September 11th. You have not done one single thing to ease the tensions of your constituents. Instead, you have pitted the factions of our country against each other, calling those of us who dare to voice dissent "unpatriotic" and turning "liberal" into the newest dirty word.
I wonder what the next four years has to bring. A countrywide rift that will never be mended? National bankruptcy? The senseless deaths of thousands more military personnel and hundreds of thousands more Iraqi civilians? Open drafts? The reversal of Roe v. Wade and countless other attacks on the civil rights of our country's citizens? Another "pre-emptive" war based on lies and misinformation?
I don't know that I'll be sticking around to find out. Canada is looking better and better with each passing day.
"To announce that there should be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American people."
